Applefork

At the end of my junior year, I fell in love with the electric guitar. More and more of the songs I wrote were guitar-centric, whereas in the past most were based around the keyboard. It was in this mindset that I wrote and produced the songs on 'Applefork', The Rare Occasions' first EP release.

The name 'Applefork' comes from a popular cafeteria game at Tufts. Each song on this record has its own identity - there's a poppy riff-based guitar tune 'Battin' Lashes', a dark and twisted take on a common nursery rhyme 'Miss Mary Mack', a by-the-book ballad 'Scarlet Lies' (which we workshopped with John Oates of Hall & Oates after it won a Berklee songwriting contest), a hip-hop inspired garage rock epic 'Getaway', and a phsychedelic, spaced out ballad 'Silhouettes'. We tracked drums at Stone Otis Studios in Framingham, MA and everything else we recorded ourselves in my apartment. I used Cubase LE5 as a DAW and many plugins, including the ever-astounding iZotope suite.
